B. Hellebrandt Magdolna: Novajidrány-Sárvár topográfiai azonosítása

TOPOGRAPHIC IDENTIFICATION OF NOVAJIDRÁNY-SÁRVÁR Based on field surveys and the detailed examination of 18th—20th century maps, it could be established that Sárvár lay at the eastern and south-eastern end of the outermost northern street of Novajidrány in County Abaúj (northern Hungary). The exact co-ordinates can be seen in Figure 13 (y [N-S]: 342450-342550; y [E-W]: 807500-807700). A roughly 200 m by 85 m large area lying west of the junction of a dirt-track and the ditch overgrown with sedges could be systematically surveyed along the ditch. Shown in Figure 14 is the northern part of Sárvár, with the last house of Novajidrány to the south, the old forester's hut on the opposite side to the west (the location of a Celtic cemetery), and the houses of Garadna to the north beyond the ditch. The infonnation contained in the medieval charters and the archaeological record both confirm the existence of the settlement of Sárvár from the 13th century to the close of the Ottoman period. The finds include painted pottery of the type found at Putnok-Dienesfalva and Muhi, indicating that NovajidránySárvár was one of the settlements destroyed by the Turks (Fig. 15).
