Pirint Andrea: Ecsettel, szóval és tettel. Bartus Ödön (1888-1950) festőművész munkássága

WITH BRUSH AND WORDS AND ACTS LIFE AND WORKS OF ÖDÖN BARTUS (1888-1950) Presented in this study is a painter whose art was much appreciated by his contemporaries, not only in his hometown, but also in the broader Miskolc area. Ödön Bartus was a well-known, respected man, held in high esteem. He was a painter first and an art teacher second, as well as an organiser of art events, an art historian, a restorer and an acclaimed heraldist. He held different posts and his duties took up much of his time. His paintings continued the naturalism of his masters. While hardly an innovative painter, Bartus strove to offer the best in his own style. The quality of his art, his versatile handling of the brush made him one of the best in the region. The few decades spanned by his activity can be ranked among the most lively art periods in Miskolc and northern Hungary owing to his efforts to create a dynamic art scene in Miskolc and to improve the broader public's taste in matters pertaining to art. Bartus played a prominent role in the area's art world. Bartus is one of the unjustly forgotten painters. The study offers a detailed overview of his life and works based on paintings housed in various Hungarian collections. We may also assume that some of his works made during study trips to Rome and Venice are part of Italian collections. His paintings may also have reached the Eperjes (Presov, Slovakia), Bártfa (Bardejov, Slovakia) and Újvidék (Novi Sad, Serbia) areas too. Andrea Pirint
