Gál-Mlakár Viktor: Komlóska-Pusztavár régészeti feltárásának eredményei

The castle is first mentioned in 1379, when the two branches divided various estates and the castle between them. Unfortunately, the text of the original document on the division of the estates has not survived. The second (and last) mention of the castle dates from 1398 and describes the castle's destruction {desolatum et corruptum castrum Solmus appellatum). We opened eleven trial trenches and several larger trenches during the archaeological investigation of the castle. We cleaned the walls of the two towers, uncovered the castle's gate and the remains of the rectangular building adjoining the northern side of the southern tower, and we also identified the path leading to the buildings in the castle's southern area. The trial trenches were aimed at clarifying the infill layers and the construction technique of the castle's walls. The investigation of the two ends of the dividing wall yielded important data on the castle's architectural periods. The finds were dominated by pottery. Animal bones and a few metal artefacts were also found. The examination of the pottery finds neither confirmed, nor disproved the assumptions concerning the castle's date of construction.
