Nyíregyháza THE „WEIDLICH-PALACE" IN THE COMMERCE HISTORY OF MISKOLC This paper has tried to analyse the „Weidlich-phenomenon". Pál Weidlich, the grocer, lived from 1862 till 1946, founded a grocer dynasty in Miskolc. Miskolc was a typical commercial town in the 18—19 tb century. First the Greeks, then the Jewish people organized the commercial life there. Besides the Weidlich family, there were a few other families at that time, who exercised such commercial activities at a high levél. The author follows his career, presents his wealth: his living house, his rest-house, his commercial palace. The latter one was built at the beginning of the 20 th century and it has still existed since then. (It was only the style of the building that has changed during the pást two decades.) The „Weidlich-Palace" is a building-complex that determinates the atmosphere of the town. As opposed to the inheritage of the buildings, the mentái inheritage of the family is considerably poor, consequently the author has used contemporary newspapers and archivál documents as sources.
