Szörényi Gábor András: A szuhogy-csorbakői vár kutatása

THE RESEARCHING OF THE CASTLE OF SZUHOGY-CSORBAKŐ In the Castle of Szuhogy-Csorbakő, there were excavation works made between 1928 and 1941. The recovered findings and excavation results were not processed by the excavators that time. I publicated the historical processment of the castle in the 2003 yearbook of the Herman Otto Museum, and now I'd like to present the principle reconstruction of the castle, and the processment of the findings. In the first part of my essay I'd like to present the Principle reconstruction of the Castle of Szuhogy-Csorbakő. In this task the primary help for me was the geodesical measures, which were made in February 2002. This was expanded not just ont he castle itself, but the close environment of the castle, so we got a picture of the medieval water and road system. We compared the results with the measures made in 1935, and with this, we coud draw the picture of the inner castle, as it could look like. The earlier excavation were not affecting the outer parts of the castle, we compared other North Hungarian castles and their developments to it, and we tried to reconstuct this part of the castle with logical conclusions. I take this principal reconstruction as the pre studies of a later excavation in which we can make a more accurate picture of the castle. In the second part of my essay I present the excavations made between 1928 and world war II, and their findings. These excavation were touching only the inner part of the castle, so we have findings only from there.Because of the excavations were lead by Andor Leszih, and mostly by a Szuhogy shoemaker András Szegő, we don't have any kind of stratum studies. The findings themselves got in the museum with labels only saying: 'The ruins of the castle of SzuhogyCsorbakő '. So I cannot mention accurate dig sites and Stratums i my finding processment. As we studied the findings, we saw that they are from the second half of the 15th, and the first half the 16th century. The most decorated objects, and decorative ceramics are also from that age. This fact is suprising, we should have much more high quality findings than we have now, because in the first third of the 15th century Csorbakö was an aristocratic residence. But findings related to this age are missing. A few findings were found however, and also some pieces from the castle of the 14th century, but their numbers are very little. Maybe the earlier archeological digging methods are responsible for this fact, but maybe the castle was 'cleaned up' by the diggers -destroying the older layers. A characteristic of the earlier excavations was that there were almost no ceramic taken. They only took the most beautyful ones, others were left there or thrown away. As a result of this act, the most of the findings which took place in the museum are metallic. We are in a lucky situation, because the castle was destroyed in 1553, so we have a relatively closed finding group. It seems that the most of the findings are from the 15th, and the first half of the 16th century. András Gábor Szörényi 320
