useful and up-to-date measures were introduced, as postage-stamp (June 1st 1850). The first Austrian - Hungarian postage-stamp had home - perforated species as well, they appeared in spring 1852 at Homonna for the first time, and were already contin - uously used at Tokaj in the summer and withdrawn in 1854. With thorough investigation the author revealed that these species had been made by the postmaster, Bazony Ferenc transfered from Homonna to Tokaj, being six years ahead of the national professional stamp-perforation. On the basis of documents come to light the study deals in detail with the past, personal situation of post office at Tállya. After the compromise of 1867 the post tried to keep abreast of accelerated development and it resulted in increased overstrain of employees. The large offices - among others that of Miskolc, too - were attached to the treasury and the staff numbers were inflated. In 1886 the postal saving-bank's intermediate service was intro - duced. In consequence of rapid increase on turnover and expansion on postal branches (telegraphy, telephone) the Miskolc post office was given in new rented properties in 1881, 1891. In northern Hungary the railway mail-service commenced on route of Tisza Railway Company in 1859. In the same time the mail - coach was still in function. Related to siting of the railway station differences arose between the Company and town management, resulting in building the station outside the town. Owing to opening the railway lines Miskolc-Kassa (1860), Budapest-Miskolc (1870) and further junction lines a separate post office was given to Miskolc railway station serving as travelling post office's manager in 1880. As new means of telecommunication, the telegraphy office was opened in 1857 at Tokaj and in 1859 at Miskolc, where for first head Franz Zappa was appointed. The first telegraph offices in this district were connected to main route Pest-Debrecen-TokajMiskolcKassa-Eperj es-Dukla. Wide-spread application was made possible by development after the compromise of 1867. Network of telephones was established - like in other districts of the country due to private initiative. The town telephone exchange of public interest with 23 subscribers was opened by Jenei Soma Company on 15th December 1888. Numbering of stations was begun in 1900 the first private publicated telephone directory containing 438 subscibers of the town and the county was issued in 1908. This time 35 communities were furnished with post-central. Local events of revolution succeeding the dissolution of Austro-Hungarian Monarchy may be interest for the reader.
