An exhibition held in commemoration of Béla Kondor

AN EXHIBITION HELD IN COMMEMORATION OF BÉLA KONDOR Béla Kondor was born in Budapest in 1931. He died in the same city in 1972. After leaving his middle-school he pur­sued the profession of an electrical fitter at a shipwright’s wharf. He began his studies at the School of Arts (the Academy) in the autumn months of the year 1950. He spent two years at the painters’ class led by István Szőnyi, then he continued to study at the graphic art section led by Károly Koffán senior. Un­der his guidance he made himself master of all varieties of graphical technique known at those days: it was Koffán who aroused with him taking interest in pho­tography, too. Of his incredulous and re­bellious spirit was springing a series of constant conflicts. He refused interfering with his own work: he was the most se­vere reviewer and ramdriver for himself. During the years at the Academy he also pursued profound studies in anato­my: his professor in anatomy, Jenő Bar- csay the artist made a great effect on the development of his style and way of look­ing at things.
