Folk Pottery

characterized by blue, green, sometimes lightbrown colouring on a white background, a moderate decoration, and a proportionate form. German settlers who moved in an isolated valley of the Mecsek, in Óbánya, created a prosperous pottery-handicraft with a characteristic world of forms and patterns together with potters of the neighbouring village, Mecseknádasd. By the 20 th century Óbánya became a better known center of pottery. Until the 1930s they made fireproof pots for cooking, later, after the changing of lifestyle and cooking habits, the making of scratched, painted, often reticulated ornamental plates gained Potter from Óbánya working on the potter's wheel. 1963, photograph by Katalin Nádor
