Reformed Hungarian headdress from the Sárköz region. R.n. L.52. 555.1 / I. 29 cms / w. 10 cms / Zengővárkony wearer, the young embroidered red, green and yellow, the elderly blue or white patterns. The fronts, collars and cuffs of men's shirts were ornamented by small white motifs as well as the lower border of men's long linen drawers. In the Reformed villages around Szigetvár parts of the costume were kerchiefs worn on the head and around the neck until the turn of the century. They were made in the second half of the nineteenth century, and they were exclusively parts of the costume worn in the church when receiving the sacrament. Its patterns were embroidered on white cambric with white cotton or weaving thread. Embroidered kerchiefs were later used as grave­kerchiefs. Shawls from the Eastern foot of the Mecsek show a resemblance with kerchiefs from around Szigetvár Catholic Hungarian headdress from the Eastern foot of the Mecsek. R.n.
