In memoriam Kováts Valéria (1925–2017) 595 In memoriam Valéria Kováts András Gerner – Ilona Millei Valéria Kováts, a former archaeologist and museumologist of the Janus Pannonius Museum, passed away in March 2017, at the age of 92. A?er graduating from the University of Budapest, she started to work at the Museum of Ethnography in Budapest, then at the National Museum, and from 1958 she was the head of the Zrínyi Miklós Museum in Szigetvár. Her most prominent professional achievements included the management of the archaeological excavations of the Szigetvár Castle and the significant increase of the collection of the Zrínyi Museum. Between 1960 and 1983, she was involved in numerous exploration excavations in Baranya, and she also played a significant role in the scientific and public education work of Janus Pannonius Museum.
