A Janus Pannonius Múzeum Évkönyve ( 2017 ) 546 Museum educational activity and events of the Ethnographic Department of the Janus Pannonius Museum in 2015–2016. Zsuzsanna Pulszter – István Burján – Katalin Sárközi One of the main tasks of the Ethnographic Department of the Janus Pannonius Museum is to popularize the folk culture presented in the museum as widely as possible, offering colourful and interesting programs to attract new visitors to the museum and to make the old museum visitors return from time to time. ?e ethnographic supply is largely provided by the workshops related to the highlighted days of the year: from the kindergarten age, interactive presentations are offered on various ethnographic topics from the Twel?h Night through the carnival to Easter, Pentecost, Autumn and Christmas celebrations. In addition to the topics above, the programs intended for schoolchildren are mostly related to art and literary topics, and a wide range of museum educational events. In addition to the organized educational institutional frameworks, the Ethnographic Department also regularly features lectures and tours for adults on varied topics in the cultural offer of Pécs. In 2015, in the context of preserving the multiethnic and multi-religious legacy of the county, an unusual series of events was launched during Advent: in the spirit of Christmas, combining the traditions of Eastern and Western Christian churches, every Sunday for six weeks, candles were lit with the participation of church officials and civilians. From schoolchildren to retirement age, many were involved at these occasions as actors or visitors, which not only shows the success of the series of events, but also the social role and community-building work of the museum.
