KRÓNIKA - Tillai Gábor: „Botanizálás a Múzsák Kertjében”. Az ismeretterjesztés és közművelődés kiemelkedő eseményei a Janus Pannonius Múzeumban (2007-2013)

Botanizálás a Múzsák Kertjében 389 ’Botanical quest in the garden of the muses’ Education activities in Janus Pannonius Museum (2007-2013) Gábor Tillai The task and purpose of the study is to present and describe the outstanding public education and museum education processes, activities and events in the studied period, associated with permanent and temporary exhibitions of Janus Pannonius Museum, Pécs. The most prominent event during the studied period was the European Capital of Culture project; in its foregoing years we joined in a number of events organised by the city, thus taking advantage of the programme delays in the ECC project, and increasing the visitor numbers of our collections. The internationally recognised exhibition ’Hungarians in Bauhaus’ in 2010 and the similarly successful exhibition about the art of ’The Eight’ also contributed to the high reputation of our institution. It is worth mentioning that certain collections were transferred abroad and to other Hungarian cities as part of the ECC (e.g. art works by Tivadar Csontváry Kosztka in Istambul and Szeged; thematic selections of Zsolnay ceramics in various locations including Slovenia in 2013 when Maribor stood as European Capital of Culture), these occasions carrying the message about our treasures far away. One of the major national initiators of museum education and popular knowledge activities in the studied period was the Museum Training and Education Centre (MOKK), generating positive processes by centrally organising Hungarian events such as the International Museum Day, the Night of the Museums, the Museum Education Prize or the Autumn Museum Festival. National and local events and contests organised for student groups of public education were similarly important, including ’Heritage of Millennia’, ’Bridges’, etc., which were implemented in cooperation with a number of partner organisations (e.g. Children’s House of the Pécs Cultural Centre, Children’s Library of the South- Transdanubian Regional Knowledge Centre, the Children’s Library of the Somogyi Library in Szeged, Pécs/Sopianae Heritage House). Last but not least, programmes for the museum-loving public in the studied period can be presented through the operation of the Pécs club of the ’Tájak, Korok, Múzeumok’ Society, too, this NGO regularly providing volunteers as well as financial support for related activities of Janus Pannonius Museum.
