172 A Janus Pannonius Múzeum Évkönyve (2015) Memoriae causa - as a memory: Text structuring, subject choice and norm-centeredness in two memory books from the turn of the 18th-19th centuries Zsuzsanna Gerner The sources of the study were the notes made in two memory books preserved in the collection of the Historical Department of the Janus Pannonius Museum, Pécs, originating from the turn of the 18th-19th centuries. The investigation aimed at revealing gender-specific differences between notes made by women and men, as reflected by text structuring, the subject choice of rhymes, their content, language and style, and in how they complied with 18th century grammar norms. The study is based on two apparently confronting linguistic concepts, showing an example of how the notions of language variants and communication can be connected in the study of language variability with the perspectives of related analyses.
