Magyar Zsolt: Trilobitenperlen from Dunaszekcső (Hungary)
Zsolt Magyar Trilobitenperlen from Dunaszekcső (Hungary) In the Csanády-collection (Bátaszék, Hungary) there are two unpublished two-channelled glass beads. They had been found on the banks of the river Danube in Dunaszekcső in Hungary by a fisherman and were presented to the Csanády-collection in or after 1965 (Mrs Csanády pers. comm.). These special beads are called Rippen-glasperlen (Noll 1963, 68) or Trilobitenperlen (Haevernick 1974, 105) in the literature. One can set up two main groups of Trilobitenperlen on the basis of decoration: 1. beads with figurative decoration, which are also called two-channelled glass cameos (Gesztelyi 1997) and 2. beads without figurative decoration. T. E. Haevernick, who set up a basic typology for the Trilobitenperlen further divided the non-figurative beads into Glatt-gerript type and Karriert-gerript type (Havevernick 1974, 106). Description of the finds 1. Trilobitenperlen (Figure 1). Glatt-gerippt type. Black opaque glass. Originally was part of a bracelet. Width: 1.7 cm; length: 2.8 cm; thickness: 0.2-0.8 cm; length of the channels: 1.6 cm and 1.4 cm; diameter of the channels: 0.3 cm; size of the matricae: 1.7 x 1.7 cm. Frontal view: six, curving horizontal ribs, asymmetric; the difference between the width of the upper and lower part is 0.3 cm; the bead is 1.1 cm longer than the matricae are, because the fluidised glass had flowed out from the bulloteria. Profile view: two horizontal channels 0.3 cm apart from each other. Back: slightly convex; it has an irregular shape with curving ends. 2. Two-channelled glass bead (Figure 3). Karriert-gerippt type. Black opaque glass. Originally was part of a bracelet. Width: 1.6 cm; length 2 cm; thickness: 2 cm 2 cm Figure 1. A glatt-gerript type two-channelled glass bead from Dunaszekcső Figure 2.
