A pécsi-baranyai múzeumok egy évszázada B. Horváth Csilla - Huszár Zoltán Bevezető - Huszár Zoltán A múzeum minden társadalmi rendszerben az enciklopédikus ismeretgyarapítás, a történelmi tudatformálás, a nemzeti identitástudat elmélyítésének fontos intézménye. A múzeum egyszerre egyetemes és nemzeti intézmény, amely Pécsen és Baranyában 1904ben nyitotta meg első állandó kiállítását. 2004-ben megnyitásának 100. évfordulóját ünnepeli az a Pécsi Városi Múzeum, amely a mai Baranya Megyei Múzeumok Igazgatósága első jogelőd intézményének tekinthető. Az elmúlt évszázadban, történelmi léptékkel nézve is jelentős gyűjteményegyüttes jött létre a pécsibaranyai múzeumi szervezetben. Mindennek összegyűjtésében, megóvásában és bemutatásában meghatározó szerepe volt a múlt emlékei, forrásai iránt elkötelezett gyűjtőknek, adományozóknak és persze múzeumi szakembereknek, a klasszikus "múzeumőröktől" a mai múzeum őrzőiig. Ez a felhalmozott szellemi kincs, ami a múzeumi tárgyakban, adattárakban, kiállításokban, kiadványokban és még sok egyéb formában ragadható meg, a természet és az alkotó ember kapcsolatában realizálódik, e viszonyrendszerben lehet mindannyiunk számára befogadható, hasznos és megőrzendő. A magyar múzeumügy - ha sommásan akarunk fogalmazni - a reformkor óta virágzik, ill. a reformkor óta válságban van. Mit is értünk ezen a tulajdonképpen sarkosnak tűnő megfogalmazáson? Over the past century historic steps have brought into being a significant number of collections under the aegis of the Pécs-Baranya museum organisation. In all the collection, preservation and display of the relics and sources of the past, defining roles were played by collectors, donors and of course the specialist museum staff, from the traditional "keepers" to today's custodians. This amassed intellectual treasure, tangible as museum objects, databases, exhibitions, publications and in many another form, materialises in the relationship between nature and creative man, and in this system becomes acceptable, useful and fit for preservation by us all
