Történettudomány - Pilkhoffer Mónika: Enlargement of the Pécs Public Hospital (1891–1895)
Pilkhoffer Mónika: A pécsi közkórház kibővítése (1891-1895) 107 Enlargement of the Pécs Public Hospital (1891-1895) MÓNIKA PILKHOFFER The hospital of Pécs which was found in 1714 had outgrown its building till the end of the 19th century. Lajos Erreth the chef manager of the hospital, noticing the constantly increasing number of patiences, proposed the extension of the building in 1891. The building program constructed by the manager would alter the L shaped basic building toward the Kórház and Vitéz streets adding another wing would make the hospital now form an U. This hospital belonged to that temprorary type, where the various therapeutic departments were situated in the building wings connected by passageways. As it was about the expansion of an already existing building, the more widespread and developed pavilion-like arrangement could be adopted only in case of the newly emerged observing and separating departments. The manager requested Imre Schlauch a local architect to make the plans. But neither the plans of Schlauch nor of Sándor Kaufer who was volunteer to make them satisfied the demands of Erreth. Therefore he gave all the already made plans to Gyula Piacsek an architect to make a better and cheaper version. Now the new plans were suitable, however the price required for the planning was so high that the relationship between the manager and the architect went wrong. The town was intended to cover the costs of the construction by a loan would have paid by instalments erecting from the treatment fees. The minister of home affairs rejected to authorize the building project because it would call forth the increase of the treatment fees. At the end of February 1893 he sanctioned the extension. Because of the modification of the plans the tender for the construction of the hospital was launched only on the 12 th of April 1894. The masonry was executed by Imre Schlauch although his application was irregular because he did not offer a discount but renounced of the price of the planning. The construction began in the summer of 1894. Till November the two pavilions in the court were finished and the main building was under roof. The extended wing of the hospital was handed over on 1 st of October 1895. The construction cost more than 160.000 forints. 1. ábra: Helyszínrajz
