Abstract. The Orthoptera fauna of the Villány Hills is discussed on the basis of the researches in 13 different habitats (shrubs with rocky grasslands, steppe grasslands and rocky grasslands) in 1997 and 1998. These researches contained faunistical and biogeographical surveys. The new locality of some orthopteran species were also proved. The distribution of faunal types and life forms, the Ensifera ratio and temporal constance value of the species were determined on each sampling area. Unequal distribution was observed at all of the categories. It can be explained by two closely related effects: the different microclimate and vegetation structure of the habitats and their changes. of the Szársomlyó (rocky grassland and steppe grassland of S slope). They found 19 Orthoptera species (Table 1). The object of the present study is to examine and compare the Orthoptera fauna of different habitats on S slopes of the Hills. Studies on Szársomlyó and Fekete Hill were linked to the National Biodiversity Monitoring System coordinated by the Duna-Dráva National Park. This paper contains the results of the latest and recent faunistical researches on the Orthoptera of the Villány Hills. Material and methods Introduction Although there were some orthopterological surveys, but the Orthoptera fauna of the Villány Hills have not been studied in detail up to the present. The previous works have focused mainly on the Szársomlyó or have studied only one species eg. Saga pedo (NAGY, В. et al. 1983), Ailopus strepens (NAGY, В. 1958) and isophya modesta (NAGY В. 1974). In the early 70's RÁcz and VARGA (1984) made a comparison between the Mecsek and the Villány Hills, which was represented with two habitats Study area The Villány Hills is situated in S Hungary, close to the Hungarian-Croatian border. The Szársomlyó and the Fekete Hill are protected areas of the Duna-Dráva National Park. The Szársomlyó has been a conservation area since 1944. The establishment of Tenkes Hill and Csukma conservation areas are going on. The UTM codes of the sampling areas are BR88, BR98 and CR08 (Fig. L). Fig. 1.
