Régészet - K. Zoffmann Zsuzsanna: Embertani leletek a Badeni kultúra Pécs-Hőerőmű lelőhelyéről
146 A JANUS PANNONIUS MÚZEUM ÉVKÖNYVE 43 (1998) Anthropological finds from the Baden Culture unearthed at Pécs-Hőeromű Zsuzsanna К. ZOFFMANN During the excavation at the site Pécs-H6erómű bone remains from nine individuals (two children, four males and three females) were unearthed from Baden cultural pits. Complete skeletons were found in objects 3 and 29 (senile female and a child), a calvarium (maturus male) in the object 2, while the rest of the finds were composed of the scattered fragments of skulls and skeletal bones. At the moment the population of the Baden Culture is represented by 85 finds published in the anthropological literature. The number of adult finds, suitable for detailed analysis, however, is much smaller. The majority of these finds came from the cemetery at Alsónémedi, while the anthropological remains from the other great Baden cemetery at Budakalász have not yet been published. According to the picture formed on the basis of the individual taxonomic identifications described in the literature, the dominant components of the Baden Culture include the Mediterranean type known from the Bodrogkeresztúr population and brachycranic features, as a new element. The Nordic and the Cro-Magnon A types have a much lower representation. The statistical analysis, using the Penrose distance analysis at a significance level of 0,1 and 1,0%, revealed the following: a. The Baden series displays a connection at a high level of significance to the Troy I-V and to the Neolithic + EH series from Greece which are the main components of the so-called "southeastern" group. Given the lack of anthropological fins from the territories between the two areas, it cannot be said wether these contacts were direct or indirect, b. The significant contact between the Baden population and the Rossen + Hinkelstein ceramic combined series is probably due to the strong SE connections revealed during the earlier analyses of the latter series. Consequently, it may be described as an indirect contact. It should be mentioned, however, that on the one hand, due to an absence of finds the population from the Middle Copper Age in our area and those from the Slovakia, Central Balkan and Pontus Region could not be examined, and on the other hand, that the results are relevant mainly to series representing the part of the Baden population living in the eastern Carpathian Basin (Alsónémedi). The only representatives of the Copper Age in Transdanubia is the find from Palotabozsok, published earlier, and the recently unearthed specimens from Pécs-H6eromű.
