Művészettörténet - Zombori Lajos: A Hermes-féle füzetek

250 ZOMBORI LAJOS 9. ábra. Fejek The fascicles of the Hermes School of Design Lajos ZOMBORI In the beginning of his artistic career Csontváry made a large number of copies of the drawings figured in the fascicles of the „Berlin Systematic School of Design" published by Wilhelm Hermes. In his autobiography Csontváry tells us „My principal was a benign elderly man, who helped me with my problem by bringing a wad of Hermes fascicles to copy them, which I copied so accurately that they could not be differentiated from the original" (p. 74 in the Hungarian version). The article begins with a few sentences of introduction, after which the author gives some sample pages of the text from the Hermes fascicles. In order to give some idea of the drawings he selected nine from among the several thousands of figures found in the almost 500 fascicles of the Hermes School of Design.
