PETROGRAPHIC INVESTIGATIONS ad R.83. 155.2. Miocene layer of diatomaceous earth (algal bed tiwh siliceous test): Mecsek, Hidasi basin (determined by Ilona К. Laky, Hungarian National Institute of Geology) ad R.83. 164.1—8. Upper Jurassic radiolarian Mecsek flint with limonitic face. Of local provenance, secondarily used (determined by Katalin T. Bíró, Hungarian National Institute of Geology) Rock samples: 1. RoomH/2, Wend, 0-50 cm 2—3. Stray finds, made during the preservation of the walls in 1980. 4. Block VI, E half, S side (burnt), 0-50 cm „None of the samples can be identified with marble. Nos 1 — 3 : silica, from dike № 4: granulated calcite, from infilling of crevasse Granulated calcite is common in all crevassed and fissured formations. Silica dikes occur primarily in granitic environments. Since the nearest such environment is to be found in the Mecsek hills, our samples presumably derive from there. Owing to the fact that their structure is different from that of the adjacent rock, such detritus may easily have dropped from the fissures and, accordingly, they may have been brought to the site in the granite and limestone extracted as building material. These stones may have been kept for their "beauty" and presumably also for some unknown purpose, but their use as "building stones" must be definitely precluded." (Livia R. Baranyai, Hungarian National Institute of Geology) For the expert reports I express my thanks hereby. The more than 2800 pieces of animal bones are discussed in detail by István Vörös (1987.).
