Entrance — SW corner During our search for the ornate entrance of the villa, the evidence gathered in the area of the SW corner led us to the discovery and subsequent excavation of rooms Y — Q. Added to the E end of the W outer wall W19 was a 630 cm long and 60 cm wide stone wall (W34/1— 7), while its W end ran beyond the presentday wire-fencing towards the small stream. In our opinion the 3 small-sized rooms (Y, Y/2, Y/4) and the annexed columned roofless portico (Q) continous to this wall may be considered the ornate entrance of the villa. The width of corridor Q — 300 cm — corresponded to that of the S portico (H—H/2). Rooms Y (Block XXII) Figs. 2,145. Dimensions: N-S = 300 cm E-W = 380 cm Walls: S = W34/1 /60 cm N = W33/2/50cm E = W33/1 /50 cm W = W33/3 /50 cm Main wall W34/1 was erected continously to wall W19. After a stretch of 250 cm it was squared, thus enclosing the small-sized room, then it ran on towards the other rooms. The subsequent, though contemporaneous, running up of the S wall was observable only in this area. The NW and SE corners of the room were elaborately set with bricks.
