Történettudomány - Füzes Miklós: Az ismeretlen Batthyány II. A Blackwell által összeállított jellemrajzok
AZ ISMERETLEN BATTHYÁNY II. 171 The Unknown Batthyány II. Portraits by Blackweli MIKLÓS FÜZES After introduction of origin and fate of Batthany Kazmer's manuscript, some portraits by Blackwell of some of the leaders of Hungarian war of independence in 1848-49 are published together with an introductory study. The present study deals with the exiles' memoirs, majority of which - in accordance with Kossuth's letter from Viddin - accuses C.-in-C. Görgey of tragic fall of war of independence. Some of them, as Batthany Kazmer, point out the responsibility of the goverment and Kossuth. He concludes, that dethronement and Kossuth's transfer of power were serious faults. After explanation of structure of the manusript, a section including the manuscript itself can be found. Then the author analyses the connection between Batthany and the persons characterized; this is followed by a short account of opinions in memoirs and a summary based upon the present-day results of historical researches. Study I. includes the part of the manuscript devoted to Széchenyi István. Here, in Study II., the author points out how Széchenyi promoted development of patriotism of Batthany by his activity, though later Batthany participated in polical lite as To characterize Bezeredy István Batthany agreed with the contemporaries' opinion. Bezeredy's ideas were almost the same as Batthany's and they influenced on him. Batthany's judgement on Görgey Arthur is more circumspect than that of the most contemporaries. He neither considers him to be a traitor only nor overprizes Görgey's ability. However, he gives a one-sided picture of Madarász Laszlo inspite of a long common carreer as oppositionists. This rejection must be due to the unknown fate of Zich-treasure. In Batthany's opinion Madarász is to be blamed for disappearance of the treasure.
