In the course of our research on popular sidereal names, we have came across the copybooks of Ottó Herman in the Etnological Documentation Department of the Hungáriáin National Miuseum — Ethnographical Museum

. They contain a rich material of star names, much more than published in his comprehensive work. He gathered these names at 19 sites, but he published just a third of the star names, recorded by him, together with the site where he collected them, leaving seven places (or informants) out Of the volume entirely. The present paper publishes the whole material, corrects the faults and misunderstandings of Herman's publication, adds (the explanations given in the mentioned copybooks and comments the names shortly, in view of a more detailed treatment at a later date. Figure 2 shows the sites of Herman' s collection {numbers on the map are identical with the serial numbers of the sites where the sidereal names of the table have been gathered); Figure 3 shows that on the basis of Herman'

s collection and the work done in this field at the turn of the century, a synchronical cross-seotion imay be given on the popular star niâmes, used in almost the whole territory of'the Hungarian language. The latter task and the full outline .are reserved, however, for a planned more comprehensive work, . dealing with the history of gathering and the valuation of star names, used by the Hungarian folk. СОБРАНИЯ НАЗВАНИЙ ЗВЁЗД OTTO ХЕРМАНА. Л MАНДОКИ Настоящая работа излагает историю собирания народных названий звезд в Венгрии, первый период которого совершается как раз деятельностью Отто Хермана. В работе A magyar pásztorok nyelvkincse (Язык венгерских пастухов — Будапешт, 1914.) он подвел итоги материалу предыдущих собраний и своим собираниям. Занимаясь народным названием звезд мы обнаружили в этнологическом архиве Этнографического музея рукописные книжки Хермана, в которых встречается намного больше материала, чем в его книге. Он собирал на 19-и местах названия звезд, но опубликовал только треть собранного материала с указанием мест; из семи мест или от информаторов ничего не печатал. В нашей работе издаем весь его материал, указываем на ошибки, недоразумения в книге Хермана, публикуем и комментарии его, находящиеся в рукописных книжках, и мы сами коротко объясняем их. Места, на которых работал Херман,показаны на 2-ом рисунке (номера карты соответствуют порядковым номерам мест собирания по названиям звезд, находщихся на таблице), на третьем рисунке показывается, что на основе его и других собираний в начале нашего столетия можно дать синкронный отрезок о народных названиях звезд всей венгерской территории. Но эту работу, полное развертывание картины, вместе с полной историей народных названий звезд перелагаем на следующее, более обширное исследование, составить которого мю уже и начинали.
