The Pintér garden ÖTVÖS, KÁROLYNÉ Duna-Dráva National Park H-7625 Pécs Tettye tér 9. E-mail: otvosne@ddnp.kvvm.hu The Pintér garden is situated in Pécs, on the hill of Tettye. The botanical garden was shaped by János Pintér between 1926 and 1933 on the western slope of a range of hills, Mecsek, a terrain with a climate of advantageous conditions. Pintér planted the territory with trees and shrubs from every corner of the world - primarily evergreen species. On the basis of its rich and valuable plant life - the rare and protected orchid species characteristic of the hills of Mecsek, such as the horned orchid (Ophrys scolopax ssp. cornuta

), the monkey orchid (Orchis simia

), the white helleborine (Cephalanthera damasonium

), the butcher's broom (Ruscus aculeatus

), the spineless butcher's broom (Ruscus hypoglossum

), the pink woodruff (Asperula taurina), the giant carnation (Dianthus giganteiformis) and the highly protected Banatean peony (Paeonia banatica

) the occurring animal species, as well as its values of cultural history and dendrology, the garden presently belongs to the Western Mecsek Landscape Protectional Region. It is the task of the Duna-Dráva National Park Directorate to conserve the stocks and habitat of the Mecsek karst shrub forest (Inulospiraei-foliae Quercetum pubescentis), the Silver Lime debris slope forest (Tilio tomentosae - Fraxinetum orni

) present in its area, as well as to guard the protected plant species and rare plant entities also present, such as the Japanese white pine (Pinus parviflora

), the limber pine (Pinus flexilis), an old Eastern redcedar (Juniperus virginiana) and the common yew (Taxus baccata). As manager of the garden, the Directorate carries out its tasks according to the managing scheme of the protected area. Currently visitors are welcome in the Pintér garden, also functioning as an arboretum.
