The commandants of the Soviet army ordered continuous communal works in every settlement of the county, including the study region, which were mainly connected to the repair of the war damages. One strategic task was to salvage the remains of the Tiszaug bridge that had been formerly blown up by the German army. Some 60- 70 people were forced to work in the icy water of the Tisza daily, some without the knowledge of swimming, thus, about 100 men were killed during the action, which was called 'malenki robot' by the Soviet commanders. The essay is based on local oral history and ethnographical field work, beside the historical and archival sources.
