fairly neglected so far, to the way of their merging with the Hungarian people, and to the comparative studies of the culture of area-units still preserving the name of the Cumans. The aim of this series is, side by side with the publication of recent scientific achievements, to confront the inherited material sources with our increased knowledge, to form a comprehensive view of both, and to expose it to the national, and we dare say, international scientific circles, thus establishing connection between this county and the activities of the various fields of learning. This latter aim is served by the extensive summeries and texts in foreign languages, as well as by the grouping of articles according to historical periods and related branches of science. So this volume on archeology will be followed by one — now in preparation — on ethnography and settlement-history, and then by another on recent history and history of cultural life as soon as the articles will have been prepared, and the publication possibilities will permit it. With our summeries in Hungarian language or with the publication of whole texts, as well as with that of important data, works, fundamental from the point of view of local cultural history, but not or hardly accessible in Hungarian language, we wish to inform not only the narrow, scientific circles, but also the intelligent laymen of our county. We trust that „CUMANIA", the proceedings of the museums of our county bearing its former name, will contribute to the development and active participation of scientific achievements in the cultural life of our public.
