Zoltán Fehér The merger of the Hungarian Bátia and the South Slavic Bacsina settlements, the military establishment of the Southern Slav population, called “rác” peoples Bátya, located south from Kalocsa, along the Danube River, was inhabited by Hungarians in the Middle Ages. A Roman Catholic, South Slavic ethnic group, called ‘rác’, settled down there at the end of the 17th century and in the early 18th century. After that more and more South Slav settlers arrived in the village and they became the majority by assimilating the original Hungarian population. In his paper, the author analyses maps and archival resources from the 18th century and thus he presents the settling of the Southern Slav population. [Translated by the editor] 47
