Filep Antal: A vízszint szabályozása és a víz hasznosítása a hagyományos közösségek világában

Antal F i 1 e p Water level control and water management in traditional communities Old maps and scientific literature help us to draw conclusions of traditional water regulation knowledge. Dykes played an important role in traditional water management, which is clearly reflected in old manuscript maps. The old, traditional water regime brought several benefits to the people of the floodplains. This regime had a crucial object: the dyke, which pushed the water into smaller river-arms thus the floodplain filled up with water. It had an important effect on fish population. On the other hand, the use of dykes provided sufficient water in water-courses, which altered the transportation system so that large amount of goods were transported even in droughts. As a result of man-made dykes relatively high ground-water level occurred which had a positive impact on the environment. [Translated by Gábor Máté] 102
