among the symbols. The triple dot/point groups and the two co-symbols made out of five sun circles/ discs might represent the various side-suns around the Sun. Perhaps, the four stars represent the Evening Star (Venus) and the horizontal repetitive patterns starting with two sun symbols reflect the annual or daily movement of the Sun. The double zig-zagging scratches are perhaps motifs of the life-giving water rushing in rippling streams. Figure 14 15.2. Symbols, which cannot be identified with atmospheric phenomena There are symbols on earrings found among the jewellery artifacts in the Carpathian Basin from the end of the Middle Bronze Age whose basic design possibly don't mimic any atmospheric phenomena created by sunlight. Still, they can be linked to natural light or starlight. Perhaps, symbols on two different types of earrings were the symbols of Middle East's most popular goddess, Isthar who became the earthly incarnation of the planet Venus by the end of Middle Bronze Age (Koszider period, around BC 15-1400) in the Carpathian Basin (Pásztor 2012). Group 1: A cross-shaped wale divides the circle drawn by a singular or double wale running along the edge of the circular bronze earring into four identical parts. There is a dot in each of the quarters. Figure 15.1 Csüngök a bonyhádi kincsből (Honti - Kiss 2000 nyomán). Pendants of Bonyhád depot (after Honti - Kiss 2000) Group 2: the surface of the circular bronze earring is decorated with a singular or double concentric wale and with eight dots organized in a circle. Figure 15.2 The closet parallel to these earrings can be found among the artifacts taken from the aristocratic graves of the graveyard excavated at the port of the Ugarit kingdom in the Middle-Eastern town of Minet el-Beida (Caubet 2000,218). The Ugarit nobles took necklaces made of carnelian beads and decorated with gold or silver pendants with them to the afterlife. The earrings are either discoid or triangular. The discoid earrings are almost exact copies of the earrings belonging to Group 1 in the Carpathian Basin. Middle Eastern 141 i
