The inventory number 40.10 designates an interesting group of finds, which has immediately attracted the attention of the research concerned with the archaeology of the early medieval Carpathian basin. The archival records published so far do not disclose any details about the provenience of the pieces. The available evidence analysed in the article strongly suggests, however, that the pieces in the Dumbarton Oaks collection are more closely related to western Europe or the to the Holy land than to the steppe region of eastern Europe. In addition it is argued, that they may be dated to the 13th century or to the beginning of the 14th. Progress can be expected from new investigations, i.e. from the forthcoming results of archaeometric analyses, revealing details of manufacturing techniques and thus suggesting workshop connections with similar pieces (e.g. in the British Museum or in the Furusiyya Art Fundation). naBJioBa, BaHH: CpeaHOBeKOBHH H3KHTH OT XIII-XIV BeK.
