VÖRÖS GABRIELLA: MEGEMLÉKEZÉS KŐHEGYI MI HÁ LY RÓL, A SZ A RM ATA KOR KUTATÓJÁRÓL Gabriella Vörös In memóriám Mihály Kőhegyi, researcher of the Sarmatian Age This commemoration gives a summary of life and work of Mihály Kőhegyi, who died in 2001. He was the archaeologist of the Tiirr István Museum of Baja between 1958 and 1996. During his almost four decades museum carrier he, beside archaeology and numismatics, dealt also with local history, history of literature and art. He was a very productive author; the number of his publications is close to the thousand. His archaeological articles dealt mainly with the Roman Age and Sarmatians. Among other topics he wrote about Roman coins found in the Barbaricum, trade routes suggested on the basis of spread of coins and objects, about different find assemblages and types of objects. His largest work was on the early Sarmatian graves containing golden artefacts. He also dealt with the history of research of the barrow cemetery and hillfort in Vaskút. He was the one to excavate the largest Sarmatian cemetery in Madaras. In his articles he returned to the details of this work for several times. As a provincial archaeologist he conducted more than hundred rescue excavations. Beside, he regularly took part at Hungarian and international conferences, giving presentations. Mihály Kőhegyi arranged several exhibitions and was a member of numerous scientific societies. Already during his life he involved young colleagues into the publication of his archaeological excavations. The publication of these studies is to be expected in the next years. 9
