into being after the organization of an independent Hungarian foreign affairs administration in 1918. The documents of the Department of Politics are very important as well as the records of the cabinet of the minister and of the Presidential department. They also show the structure and organization of diplomacy, and its relationship to foreign affairs including the arranggement of certain meetings, initiations and actions and the machinations the relations between Hungary and other countries. The Economic Policy department helped Hungarian companies with foreign commerce, also in the representation of their interests and the protection of their rights. It also co-operated in organizing international markets and tourism. The records of foreign representation - in 1939, already twenty-four embassies, one general consulate, seven consulates and seventy-six honorary general consulates as well as consulates that give important data on Hungarian minorities living in other countries in connection with the conditions of Hungarian Diaspora and protection of their interests all over the world. The Archives of Ministry of Justice, (1867 -1944) include several documents of judicial governing bodies, such as the courts, the state attorney's office and the bodies representing the Treasury. The Ministry of Justice organized in 1867, had oversaw the bodies and staff of the courts, attorney's offices, notary publics and bar associations and prisons and youth affairs. Its other important task was participating in the preparation of the rule of law. But a great part of the ministry's written material was destroyed in a fire during the 1956 revolution. As a consequence, the source-materials of some catergories are totally missing. We should also mention that the written material of Hungarian King's Court, Court of Appeal, Attorney General's Office, District Attorney's Office of Budapest and Treasury Board of Law are also fragment and incomplete. The Archives of Religious and Public Education, (1867 - 1945) also suffered considerable damage in the fires of 1956 revolution. The administration of religion, public funds and public education belonged to the ministry (the latter one involved educational administration, tasks of the administrations of science, arts and general education). The remaining material include: the documents of secondary and higher education, the documents of economy and management of public funds and the records of ecclesiastical matters. There are also partially remaining written documents of the Ministry of Finance and its subordinated organizations, (1867 - 1945) and corpuses signed by certain ministers. The records of committees sent abroad for meetings also give important data about some policies concerning the budget and finance. The administrative tasks in connection with branches of national economy between 1867 and 1888 were completed both by the Ministry of Agriculture, Industry and Trade, and by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and their successors; the Ministry of Agriculture, (1889 - 1945) the Ministry of Trade and
