he Archives of History of Politics and Trade Union are open private archives. It collects the documents of Hungarian working-class movements, legal and illegal ones before 1945, the documents of the parties, left-wing youth organizations, trade unions and of people who join in these movements and organizations after World War II. The archives have tried to find and maintain the materials and sources of enduring value of present time and mainly the private records from the time of political changes. It is open to all parties, organizations and associations and any individual who intends to deposit e.g. files and file bequests for keeping. The archives nowadays keep about 4,000 linear metres of documents; 284 film rolls can be found about foreign documents that relate to Hungary. Important collections: • Documents of Social Democratic Party of Hungary / Social Democratic Party, 1890-1948 • Documents of communist movement and its parties 1907-1948 • Records of National Peasants' Party 1939-1949 • Records of trade unions, labour and left-wing organizations, movements 1753-1989 • Documents of social organisations 1945-1989 • Documents of youth organizations 1919-1989 • Files of certain publications 1896-1989 • Personal collections, memoirs 1839-1997 • Collection from 1956 • Lampoon, pamphlet collection 1870-1958,1990,1994 • Copies of documents from foreign archives relating to Hungary 18491978 The most extensive and researched fond groups are the documents of political parties and trade unions. Our archives hold the surviving documents of legal and illegal workers' party from before 1945.
