THE ARCHIVES OF SCIENTIFIC INSTITUTIONS - The Academic Archives (The Archives of MTA) by Diana Háy

By Dianna Háry: The Academic Archives / The Archives of MTA the central board and official bodies of the Academy. The most important ones are: documents of general assemblies, presidential meetings, leaders of the Academy, documents of the president, secretary general, assistant secretary general and so on; the documents of scientific departments and functional main departments. A significant group of documents from science history are included with the documents of Hungarian Scientific Council, 1948 - 49. The Academic Archives keep the documents of Scientific Qualifying Committee. (Hungarian abbreviation TMB) Only a small part of documents of the research centre under the competence of the Archives gets into the stock of Archives, most of them are maintained by the institutions themselves. The documents of defunct centres, bequests of sciences through donation and deposit went into the archives; and those of Péter Treitz, Árpád Bardócz and Barna Győrffy. The Archives have a total of 7036 photos and 619 cassette audio collection. The most important publications are: The Academic Archives in the Academic Library of Hungarian Academy of Science by László Szelei 1970, Budapest; The documents of the President of MTA 1950-70. Repertory, 1979, Budapest; Fond and Holdings register of Academic Archives 1998, Budapest, 1998. The research room is open from Monday to Thursday from 9.00 a.m. to 16.00 p.m. and on Friday from 9.00 a.m. to 13.30. p.m. on the Site of the Academy, 9. Roosevelt square, Budapest V A valid pass is needed for research but for library membership the pass requirement is waived. The application for research has to be presented to the leader of the Archives who is authorized to give approvaltaking the Act no. LXVI of 1995 about plea of defence of public documents, public archives and private, individual archives into consideration and can give permission based on the directives of the Act no.
