THE ARCHIVES OF SCIENTIFIC INSTITUTIONS - University Archives by László Szögi
The Deed of Foundation of the University of Nagyszombat, 1635 (Archives of Eötvös Loránd University ) places archival sections were formed in university libraries inaugurating the process of forming official archives. The first university archives repertory was published in 1975. As a result of these works, professional archives were formed in Miskolc University in 1982 as well as the reviving the ELTE in 1983. In 1984 the university archives were established in Sopron University with the approval of the ministry. In the second half of the 1970s and in the 1980s, new works of archival arrangement began in many other universities, too. As a result of it the Veterinary University got the legal status of professional archives in 1986, the Agricultural University of Keszthely and the collection of the University of Economics of Budapest in 1987 Officially six university archives existed before the changes in the political system occurred but in many institutions professional works helped in the revival of archives that had already existed for some decades. So it is not surprising that four new university special archives obtained permission to begin work at the same time at the beginning of 1993.
