Heilauf Zsuzsanna: A kassai jezsuita egyetem és hallgatósága The Jesuit University of Kassa (KoSice) and its Students In the 17th and 18th centuries, the University of Kassa played a key role in the education network of the Jesuits. The towns of Nagyszombat and Kassa were prominent university centres, places where the Hungarian Catholic secular and church intellectuals studied in spite of the fact that both can be found in an almost missionary area in terms of Recatholization and, until 1712, several military campaigns represented a serious threat not only to the education taking place at the universities but to the very existence of the institutions, too. The importance of the, less known, role Kassa played is documented by the fact that it was one of the four provincial universities of the Jesuits (besides Vienna, Graz, and Nagyszombat) where the members of the Jesuit order could study.
