The Military Hospital of the Technical University (1914-1918)

World War I brought new tasks and challenges to universities, including the Royal Joseph Technical University that ran a military hospital. The institute with 300 beds worked continuously until the end of the war, and the university education was not suspended, either. Between October 1914 and November 1918, the hospital admitted over 10,000 patients and wounded persons; 65% of those treated here recovered, and the mortality rate was only 0.75%. A significant connection of the hospital to the university manifested itself also in the fact that the instructors' female relatives engaged themselves in entertaining the patients, managing their affairs, and raising funds for them.
