Műhely Károlyi Bálint: Egy rendhagyó karrier. Veglai Horváth Gáspár, a Magyar Kamara elnökének életútja
tak. Katonaként sikeres karriert tudhatott maga mögött. Jó viszonyt ápolt a korszak neves lengyel politikusai közül Zamoyski kancellárral, de a királyi udvarban is fontos szerepet játszott, magával a királlyal, III. Zsigmonddal is jó viszonyban volt. Lengyelországi karrierjének befejezése után visszatért a Magyar Királyságba, ahol sikeresen integrálódott a korabeli elitbe, aminek eredményeképpen 1619-ben, ha nem is zökkenőmentesen, de a Magyar Kamara elnökévé nevezte ki az uralkodó. Elnöksége egybeesett a harmincéves háború első szakaszával, amiből Bethlen Gábor fejedelem is kivette a részét, így az erdélyi érdekeltségekkel rendelkező Horváth Gáspárnak ügyesen kellett lavíroznia annak érdekében, hogy ottani pozícióit is megvédhesse. Életére és karrierjére a „rendhagyó” jelző mellett talán a legjellemzőbb a közvetítő szerep volt, amit igyekezett legjobb tudása szerint ellátni. Több diplomáciai küldetésben és béketárgyaláson is részt vett, ezzel mintegy mediátori szerepet vállalt a Habsburg Monarchia és benne Magyarország, valamint Erdély és Lengyelország között. BÁLINT K ÁROLYI AN UNUSUAL CAREER The life of Gáspár Horváth of Vegla, the President of the Hungarian Chamber One of the most important institution of the Kingdom of Hungary was the Royal Chamber in Pressburg. The circumstances of his appointment as president of the Chamber are pointing out to that the selection of the head of the most important monetary institution of the state led to serious political struggles in the era.
