IRINA M ATIASH HISTORY OF THE DIPLOMATIC REPRESENTATION OF THE UKRAINIAN PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC IN BUDAPEST 1919—1924 The study gives an insight into the international activities of the autonomous Ukrainian state existed de jure from 20 November 1917 to 6 November 1919, presenting the history of the extraordinary Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Budapest. The Representation of the Ukrainian People’s Republic in Budapest was established between January 24 and February 7, 1919, and was officially in operation in the Hungarian capital until April 2, 1924. The study points out that, with the exception of one incident during the Hungarian Soviet Republic, the Exteriority of the Ukrainian foreign mission was assured by all political governments, even though the Hungarian People’s Republic was not legally recognized by the Hungarian government. The diplomatic missions were headed by two diplomats: Mikola Galagan and Volodimir Sikevich. The operation of the Ukrainian mission consisted mainly of supplying prisoners of war in Ukraine, cultural diplomacy and propagandistic activities.
