ANDRÁS K ISS A VISION OF FUTURE — A PICTURE OF HUNGARIANS Documents from the legacy of József Kővágó Until today, we had only fragmented knowledge about the life and political career of József (Küronya) Kővágó. However due to the exploring of his unique written legacy in the National Archives of Hungary and in the National Széchényi Library we have opportunity to elaborate on his life story. The archival sources reveal not only his personality, political role and social network, but they give an insight to the political skirmishes of the American Hungarians after 1956. At the time, the Kádár regime wanted to divide the representative organisations of the American Hungarian emigration. The memoir of József Kővágó about his prison sentence and the working method of the terror of the 1950s is still considered as an authentic description. His work under the title You are all alone on english was published in 1959. The title of the book says a lot about the mentality of József Kővágó, and about that, the American Hungarians (also) remained alone in their fight after the United Nations ceased the discussion of the Revolution of 1956. All of this made an impact on his evolving view about the vision of the future of the Hungarians, the Nation and the Motherland.
