Nyolcasok a magyar történelemben - Pók Attila: Nyolcas évek a huszadik századi magyar történelemben

emberként, egy kisebb vagy nagyobb csoport tagjaként fontos kérdésekből indulhatunk ki és kereshetünk értelmezési keretet. Ez a kérdés pedig nem feltétlenül a nagypolitika egy-egy kérdése, hanem magán-, mikrotörténelmünk dilemmája. Apró kisebbség az, amely a tudományhoz fordul ilyen esetekben útmutatásért, sokkal többen mérlegelnek vallásos vagy politikai hitvallásuk alapján, vagy a misztika sokarcú világához fordulnak segítségért. A tudomány rideg racionalitáson alapuló világa sem nélkülözheti a sokirányú ihletettséget, miért is ne gondolkozzunk el a számok hatalmán? ATTILA

DATES WITH EIGHTS IN TWENTIETH-CENTURY HUNGARIAN HISTORY This short introductory text ponders about the possible interpretations of the years ending in an 8. It is remarkable that since 1848 at least five ‘8-er years’ were of great significance in Hungarian history: 1918, the end of World War One and a revolution, 1938, the most successful year between the two World Wars, 1948, the year of the communist takeover, 1968, the year of the introduction of a market-oriented economic policy and involvement in the invasion of Czechoslovakia. 1988 brings about the beginning of the dismantling of the Kádár-regime. It concludes by referring to some myths involving number 8 and suggests that occasionally serious scholarship can also address the power of numbers.
