Műhely - Csendes László: Sztálinista tájkép a „géniusz generalisszimusz” nélkül. Kisebbségi és vallási csoportok üldözése a Román Népköztársaságban

LÁSZLÓ C SENDES STALINIST LANDSCAPE WITHOUT THE “GENIUS GENERALISSIMUS” PERSECUTION OF MINORITIES AND RELIGIOUS GROUPS IN THE ROMANIAN PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC My aim in this paper is to explore the restriction of minority rights in the People’s Republic of Romania during the (post)stalinist period and to analyse the harmful and narrow-minded measures taken by the communist leadership against the minority churches and their believers in order to destroy the coherence of the religious communities. On March 17, 1959, important voices of the Cold War and distinguished personalities of the anti-communist resistance summarized the abuse of the communist authorities against the religious minorities. Richard Wurmbrand and bishop dr. László Ravasz described how the churches had been demoted to “simple cultural communities” by the totalitarian states and used for political aims. “The Church has to keep in mind that its existence depends on faith. The Church carries the risk of faith... It does not belong to this world and remains here as long as it carries this risk, struggling against all odds to spread the joyous message that has been entrusted to it, both to those who are listening, and to those who do not want to hear it.”–concluded Ravasz.
