Műhely - Gecsényi Lajos: Dokumentumok Habsburg Ottó és a Magyar Nemzeti Bizottmány kapcsolatához (1948-1950)

LAJOS G ECSÉNYI DOCUMENTS ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN OTTÓ HABSBURG AND THE HUNGARIAN NATIONAL COMMITTEE (1948–1950) The self-organization of the diverse Hungarian emigrants, who found their new homes in Europe, then in the USA after Second World War, strengthened after the Communist power takeover in Hungary in the end of the 1940s. That time, with the help of the American government a refugee emigrant “parliament”, the Hungarian National Committee was established, which wanted to be a representative of all political forces with the exclusion of the far right and the Communists. Two members played leading role in the Commission, Tibor Eckhardt, former member of the Hungarian Parliament, who has lived in the United States since 1941, and Bakách-Bessennyey György, Hungary’s former ambassador in Switzerland. Both of them have been in acquaintance with Ottó von Habsburg for a long time, who enjoyed widespread reputation and authority in the Western world. The Archduke paid great attention to relations with Hungarian emigrant politicians, helped their work, to resolve internal disputes and consolidate their situation. Their correspondence confirms this. Dokumentumok Habsburg Ottó és a Magyar Nemzeti Bizottmány kapcsolatához (1948–1950) 309
