A reformáció és magyarországi öröksége - Csepregi Zoltán: A reformáció kezdetei II. Lajos Magyar Királyságában
ZOLTÁN C SEPREGI THE BEGINNINGS OF THE REFORMATION IN THE KINGDOM OF HUNGARY DURING THE REIGN OF LOUIS II One of the important conclusions of this study is connected with nationality: all the examined persons are German-speaking, or if this can not be certainly stated, they are people living in German-speaking environment. The examined documents were all written in German, mostly in towns with German population and royal courts, which were multilingual due to dynastic relations. The analysis of the texts of primary sources shows the significant impact of the Reformation in the German inhabited areas of Hungary during the period before the Battle of Mohács, but the movement did not yet pass the German-Hungarian language border within the country. It can be stated, therefore, that the impacts of the Reformation can only be traced back in urban and German speaking communities. The Hungarian ethnicity will be clearly susceptible to the theological interpretation of the defeat of Mohács, that is, to the reverence of the saints, as found in the work of Mátyás Dévai, the first major Hungarian reformer. This teaching was clearly a reaction to the defeat of Mohács and the political, military, and spiritual crisis of the country. A reformáció kezdetei II. Lajos Magyar Királyságában 27
