IMRE M AKÓ SOURCES IN TERRITORIAL ARCHIVES FOR THE RESEARCH ON THE CASUALTIES OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR The study presents the available sources for examining the casualties of WWI in relation to certain territories and settlements, and for collecting personal data. The author shares the experiences of the research on Hódmezővásárhely, a town with 62 000 inhabitants. In case of archival records considered as primary sources, the essay presents the different types of cases and documents were generated in the different levels of public administration, examine their contents, including the census, war memorials, the aid for the relatives of the soldiers, the registers of the martyrs and the missing persons declared dead, aid for the relatives of the casual­ties of the war, and the subsequent attempts to list the heroic dead and the main­tenance of the war graves. It also draws attention to other supplementary databas­es, which sometimes replace the archival sources, such as local press releases, hero­ic memorials, cemetery records, etc. Az első világháborús veszteségkutatás forrásai a területi levéltárakban 205
