70th Anniversary of the Forint - The Birth of the New Currency from a Numismatic Perspective

The study presents the most important events in the last year of the “pengő” currency. It demonstrates the hyperinflation and the subsequent stabilisation period between 1945 and 1946 in Hungary from a numismatic perspective. The study also embraces the most important historical background events that influenced the process. The data arranged in tables show the physical characteristics and key data of each currency. The issue of hyperinflation and the subsequent stabilisation period have been analysed in a number of works. Therefore the aim of this study is to give a concise and clear record for a broader audience on the aforementioned processes and the birth of the new currency. At the same time it pays tribute to the Forint on its seventieth anniversary.
