AZ „ERDÉLYI" FEDŐNEVŰ ÜGYNÖK JELENTÉSEI A KISGAZDAPÁRTI EMIGRÁCIÓ VEZETŐIRŐL (BUDAPEST, 1969. JÚLIUS 3.-AUGUSZTUS 18.)

AGENT 'ERDÉLYI'S' REPORTS ON THE EMIGRATION LEADERS OF THE SMALLHOLDER PARTY (BUDAPEST, 3. JULY 1969-18. AUGUST): The author of the reports published here is lawyer József Szentiványi, alias agent 'Erdélyi'('Transylvanian'), who was enlisted in 1960. He had a wide range of connections in the civilian, national liberal intellectuals; reformed and Unitarian church circles; and in the management of the Independent Smallholder Party. From 1962 his task was to keep an eye on the foreign relations of the politicians and sympathizers of the Smallholder Party who were considered 'hostile' political factors by the Home Affairs organisations. After 1962, when he systematically renewed his smallholder connections, his behaviour became suspicious, his acquaintances became wary of him. According to sources, Szentiványi's commissioning to the United States was initiated by the III/I1I-3 Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs, that was responsible for collecting data on the connections of the previous coalition parties who had emigrated to the west. Szentiványi's task was to trace the poltical intentions of the emigrant smallholder leaders; to estimate the inner connections of the emigration; and to make efforts to deepen the conflict between the leaders. His reports are partially character studies, to some extent statements of political views of the speakers without analysis. The fact that the documents were written in the spirit of official government propaganda in relation to emigration greatly reduces their scientific value. Although Szentiványi's reports were accepted by his superiors, his mission was not successful. Deepening the conflict between the emigrant leaders ended in failure. The agent and his employers were discredited. The documents below originate from the Szentiványi agent file, which was opened on 25th August 1969 and was closed 15th May 1975.

Rainer János tavaly megjelent könyvében1 már tisztázta, hogy az „Erdélyi" fedőnevű ügynök valójában Szentiványi József ügyvéd volt, akit kétéves győzkö- dés után 1960-ban szerveztek be. Beszervezési dossziéja és hatos kartonja nem került elő, viszont rendelkezésre állnak és kutathatók munkadossziéi az Állambiztonsági Szolgálatok Történeti Levéltárában (ÁBTL). Életrajzi adatai meglehetősen hiányosak, és egyelőre autentikus életrajza sem ismert.2 Érdeklődésénél,

2 Szentiványi József 1911-ben született erdélyi unitárius vallású családban. Innen ered a fedőneve. Felesége 1956 szeptemberében halt meg, később nem nősült újra. 1931-ben érettségizett a debreceni református gimnáziumban. 1932-től 1936-ig joghallgató Budapesten, és mint szegény diák az unitárius egyház által fenntartott kollégiumban lakott. Ügyvédi pályára lépett. A front átvonulása Debrecenben érte. 1945 januárjától 1946 nyaráig a BM alkalmazottja, majd az FKGP apparátusában kapott állást. 1948-1949-ben viszont már a Gazdasági Főntanács munkatársa. 1953-1955-ben a Kohó- és Gépipari Minisztérium jogi osztályán dolgozott, később Kábel- és Sodronykötél Gyárba került. 1964-től a Konzervipari Tröszt jogtanácsosa. Későbbi életpályája nem ismert. Feltehetően 1972-től nyugdíjas.
