A könyvtáradományozó Ráday Gedeon 213 1295. There is no question of the earlier linking with the XF Century clan ofRátót, as suggested by the baroque courtesy of panegyric authors. — The family came to extinction in 1937 only. The genealogical panoráma of the ancestry shows widely open social components: rebellious leaders claiming national independence alternate with most loyal servants of the Crown, high-ranked state officials with free-thinking intéllectualfrancs-tireurs, powerful landlords with proud gentries badly in want of money. Somé bourgeois impact appears as well, thanks to the activities in mining or coinage, having achieved nobility through economic Channels. Let us add somé valiant warriors , ,rising out of nothing" through individual meríts during the two centuries of permanent war against Osmanli invasions. These romantic heroes represent indeed Count Ráday's roots in the anonymous vitality of Hungárián peasantry. As a résumé, an accomplished social panoráma appears, following standard stratification and mobility patterns of the classical evolution scheme of the Hungárián society, until its basic mutation in 1848. — The cultural treasure granted by the Ráday family to the nation represents a fine testimony of a progressive intellectual attitűdé within the XK* century's renovatory trend towards creating a modern Hungary.
