"148 Karsai Elek IRATOK 1 Belgrád, 1919. március 31. Sir С des Gras belgrádi brit követ jelentése a Magyar Tanácsköztársaság kikiáltásának belgrádi visszhangjáról (Részlet.) A wireless telegram from В. К. to Lenin (whose secretary he is said to have been during his stay in Russia after having deserted from the Austro —Hungarian Army) appealing for help and declaring Bolshevik war against all external nations was intercepted, as well as the reply, in which Lenin is said to have expressed the opinion that the movement in Hungary was not purely Bolshevik but apparently more nationalist inxharacter. ... It is necessary to point out how nearly and deeply Serbia (and the new Kingdom of the S. H. S) may be affected by the coming into the power of so extremist a Government in Hungary and by the possibility, however difficult to fortell at present, of its developing into militant Bolshevism. At present the feeling, as gathered by me at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs or in conversation else, where is that the origin or cause of these events and the change of Government at Buda Pesth was primarily an outburst of patriotism, said by some to have united momentarily all classes, in consequence of the threatened loss, so it was understood, of territory which they claimed to be entirely Hungarian without which also they consider their economic future as an independent state to be doomed ... ... That the Serbians should be able to employ it (Serbian Army) in sufficient force, as an active weapon of defence or even attack against Bolshevism, if necessary, is, rather generally here, looked upon as dependent on two things; the first being the immediate supply to them by the allies of the necessary clothing and equipment to enable them to fit out their recruits, which of spy of re-iterated requests have not up till now been forthcoming; the second, the garantee by the Allies of the frontiers of the Kingdom new and old, westward towards the Adriatic, Montenegro and Albania on which they declare that anti-Serbian Italian incitement and action are continuously found be at work, and eastward towards Bulgaria also. Freeman kapitány jelentése Troubridge tengernagyhoz a budapesti helyzetről The situation at Budapest is rapidly becoming critical. There have been 2000 arrests and about twenty executions of Bourgoisie. Béla Kun is seeking to give up Government to more moderate Socialist but extreme elements make it difficult to do so without further bloodshed. Commander Freeman considers Roumanian offensive should continue and that advance from South should be made and that serious resistance by Hungarians is impossible. Budapest, 1919. május 14. Freeman kapitány jelentése a budapesti helyzetről "On May 3rd owing partly to the Roumanian advance and the idea then prevailing that it was an allied offensive and partly to the disappointment occasioned by the comparative failure in other countries of expected outbreaks on May 1st, it was seriously discussed at a full meeting of the Government whether the actual Government should resign and place the power in the hands of a purely Socialist Government."
