130 Karsai Elek 17. Párizs, 1921. április 1. Lord Harding távirata Earl Curzon-nak a Nagykövetek Konferenciája üléséről, a francia cáfolatról. A meeting of the Conference of Ambassadors was held this morning under the chairmanship of Monsieur Jules Cambon and the following questions were discusséd: 1. Monsieur Cambon read a declaration contradicting the reports which had been circulated to the effect that the French Government had favoured the return of the ex-emperor Charles to Hungary, and stating that the French Government were in entire accord with the poíicy of the allies in opposing the restoration of the Hapsburgs. It was decided to instruct the High Commissioners at Budapest to present a nöte to the Flungarian Government Ín the name of the Conference of Ambassadors repeating the terms of the note of February 4th 1920, by which the Allies had warned Hungary against the consequences of a restoration of a member of the Hapsburg family to the throrie, and to communicate this note to the neighbouring States. Kivonat: A Nagykövetek Konferenciája Jules Cambon elnöklete alatt ülést tartott. Cambon felolvasott egy nyilatkozatot, mely cáfolja, hogy a francia kormány támogatást ígért volna Károlynak, leszögezvén, hogy a francia kormány továbbra is kötelezőnek tartja magára nézve a Habsburgok visszatérését tiltó nyilatkozatot. A Konferencia elhatározta, hogy a budapesti főmegbízottuk útján tudomására hozza a magyar kormánynak, hogy a nagyhatalmak továbbra is ragaszkodnak az 1920. február 4-i nyilatkozathoz. 18. Párizs, 1921. április 2. Lord Harding távirata Earl Curzon-nak Briand bűnrészessége be nem bizonyíthatóságáról Your Lordship's telegram No. 150 of the Ist instant. I have made enquiries from different sources and can find no confirmation of report that the President of the Council encouraged ex-King Charles to return to Hungary. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs flatly denied statement made by the ex-King that the French Government were in favour of his return and in order to make their attitűdé quite clear the French Commissioner at Pesth was authorised to issue a formai démenti and it was with the same object that the initiative was taken by the French Government in making the declaration accepted yesterday by the Conference of Ambassadors against the return of the Habsbourgs. This has since been published in the Press. On the other hand there is no doubt whatever that the ex-King received encouragement from certain society circles in Paris where Catholic and old French aristocratic families meet, and of this evidence has been given by articles which have appeared in the „Figaro" and the „Gaulois" during the last few days. It is my firm conviction that Monsieur Briand had nothing to do with it. Gépelt másolat. — PRO FO 371. Kivonat: Arra irányuló puhatolódzásai, hogy megtudja, vajon Briand bátorította-e Károlyt a restaurációra, eredménytelenek maradtak. Hivatkozik a párizsi és a budapesti francia cáfolatokra, ugyanakkor megemlíti, hogy az ex-uralkodó kétségkívül kapott biztatást francia katolikus és arisztokrata köröktől, amint ezt a Figaróban és a Gaulois-ban megjelent cikkek is mutatják. Saját szilárd meggyőződése, hogy Briand-nak az ügyhöz nem volt semmi köze.
